Saturday September 10th between 10am and 4pm sees the return of Nelson Food and Drink Festival in Nelson town centre. 8000 local schoolchildren from 35 schools have been sent a poster to school, for them to draw their favourite food. They have then been asked to bring them down to the main marquee at the Festival on Saturday, with the winning entry receiving a hamper delivered to school, plus first, second and third prizes of £50, £30 and £20!

Paul Sutton from Property Shop visited St John Southworth Primary School on Lomeshaye Road in Nelson to see how the children were getting on with their competition entries. He said, “It was lovely to see so many entries and we had a discussion about their favourite foods. I hope to see them all again on Saturday when they post their entries, and they can try some delicious food from the stalls!”

Danny Sebastian, TV star of Bargain Hunt and Cbeebies’ Junk Rescue, is set to be the host for the day. He will be bringing his sense of humour and style to the day and creating a fun atmosphere for all the visitors – who may well recognise him from the small screen! There are also fantastic free attractions including a kitchen demonstration area featuring local Caribbean chef Mama Shar, Street Food Pizza, and some amazing local businesses and performers.

Timings for the day include:

  • 10.00 am    Official opening by the Mayor of Pendle
  • 11.30 am   Live demonstration of Caribbean rice and peas by Mama Shar
  • 12.30 pm   Desi Nach Bollywood Dancers performance
  • 1.00 pm      Live demonstration of pizza making by Street Food Pizza
  • 2.00 pm      Live demonstration of pasta making by Street Food Pizza
  • 2.45 pm      Live demonstration of Caribbean fried dumplings by Mama Shar

Sponsors of the event include Property Shop, Nelson Town Council and Financial Affairs.

There will also be fundraising for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, and local foodbanks.
